Fred & Myrtle

I took the advice of my Mom and called The Backyard Birdshop this weekend. The lady that helped me was so friendly on the phone!

I told her about Myrtle's behaviour. She thought we may be seeing Fred (the male) and Myrtle might be in the nest...or it's possible that the Cooper's Hawk got him. But let's not think about that.

She mentioned that Mourning Doves are kind of dopey. They tend to hang around a lot and don't get scared off like other birds. If Myrtle was pregnant and has babies, they will be as big as their parents, if not bigger. Their feathers, are soft and fluffy.

So, we are on the lookout. We did see one of the morning Doves off and on here, but not like last week.

Have a good week!

Uh, Oh....maybe that's what happened to Fred!

Last night, Rob and I were on the computer and had the sliding glass door to the patio open. Thank goodness we have a screen door! All of a sudden we heard a loud noise and a ruffle of feathers. This huge beast looking thing came down from the sky. Nope, it wasn't Fred or Myrtle. It wasn't a plane or Superman either. It was a bird that I've never seen close up in person.

Rob said it was a Chicken Hawk. I looked it up online and to be more precise, he identified it as a Cooper's Hawk.

Today I didn't see Myrtle all day long. I was so worried that the Hawk may have attacked her, but Rob said he saw her later in the day. Yay! I'm still not sure what's up with her. Maybe she just had a bad day.

LaLa, you may be right, she might be out looking for an Attorney. Thanks, Mom on the idea to call The Backyard Bird Shop. I may do that tomorrow. Also I haven't seen any chimps yet, Dawn, so I guess Mrs. Audobon is a better name. Rob was just being silly. Ha, ha....

The story will be continued...

Have a good weekend!

What is going on with Myrtle?

Fred & Myrtle have been visiting us for several years now it seems. They typically come together and will sit on our patio eating the bird seed that has fallen to the ground. Lately, it appears that Fred is nowhere to be found and Myrtle is acting a little strange.

Yesterday Myrtle was on the porch almost the entire day. She looked all "puffed" up. It was hard to tell if she was injured or maybe, she is pregnant? I wish I would have taken some pictures yesterday...

I looked on the Internet and tried to find out a little more about Mourning Doves. They are typically monogamous and if the female is pregnant, the male will help her build a nest. I don't see a nest and I don't see Fred. So, I found a box and pulled apart some cotton balls to line the box for her. She also has a little container filled with water next to her box. She's been super close to the box, but I don't think she's gone in it yet.

Rob is calling me Jane Goodall now. I want to know what the deal is with her. Is she pregnant? Where is Fred? Did they get in a fight? Hmmm.....Any ideas, please let me know.

Myrtle on the railing...

On the patio....messy birdseed, but she's eating it!

There's her little container of water. We have a bird bath, but I don't think she's drinking out of it.

There's the box in the corner....kind of sheltered. Jump in, MYRTLE!!!

I'll keep you posted on what's happening with her.

A Sunday Drive...

Several weeks ago, my husband and I took a Sunday drive through the country. We live in a suburb, but you don't have to drive very far to get out of the city. It was a beautiful, sunny day and we had so much fun driving around, looking at houses and taking pictures.

The Red Clover is amazing when it's in bloom!

Rob joined in the picture taking. I like this shot.

Red Rover, Red Rover, Send Clover Right Over....

Another close up shot.

Mt. Hood in the background.

Beautiful house - it's sinking into the Clover....

Mixture of color...

Huge house being built!

I love the white fence....oh, and the house too!

We came across some Llamas. I love these guys. This one looks a little grouchy.

This guy/gal is my favorite. She really looks like she's smiling. I've named her Happy.

Picture out the sunroof of the car.

I love barns too!

Horses...

This house is too cute for words. Looks like something from a story book or movie.

Another barn...

Old well?

This house looks like a castle. Okay...I feel like I'm in fairytale land.

Baaaahhhh....

I'll leave you with this, probably my favorite photo of the day.

But may the righteous be glad and rejoice before God; may they be happy and joyful.

Happy Day!

Where have I been?

It's been a long time since I've blogged. I've been busy with other things, call it distracted, lazy, or you can fill in the blank yourself. Anyway, I'm back and hope to do a better job of keeping this more up to date.

Last weekend, my best girlfriend, Shirley and her family were in town from Alabama. I met her in college and ever since, we've shared a brain. Ha, ha....we always kid about this and take pictures to illustrate this concept.

So, I thought I'd share some shots with you from last weekend.

Going across the bridge with Mt. Hood in the background. Don't worry, I'm not driving.

View of beautiful Portland.

Another shot.

We left John, Rob and the kids to play at OMSI, while us girls went to NW 23rd and shopped. We had so much fun and didn't even buy anything. I guess it goes to show that you can have fun without spending any money....oh, I take that back. We did go to Starbuck's, but my drink was free and Shirley refused to let me pay for hers. She's such a stinker that way! :)

You know me...I can't resist taking pictures of flowers, plants, vines, etc.

I like the containers lined up on the railing of this old building/apartment, but I have to say, the little baby kind of creeps me out.

Don't ask me what bridge this is...I should know though...

I like the landscaping down by Front Avenue.

I tried to get a picture of John, Shirley and the kids in their rental car behind us....didn't really turn out.

Later we went to the park and the kids got to play. Oh, this is my kid. Well, he's a big kid at heart. ha, ha....

We're trying to take a picture of ourselves, but it didn't quite capture our faces...oh, except for my lovely wrinkles!

Me and Shirley

This is the 1/2 brain shot I was talking about! We have taken many of these over the years. hmmm...good idea for a future post, or maybe not!

Rob and me

John stayed with the kids at the hotel, that night, so he missed out on the fun at the Mexican Restaurant.
OOPS!!! Clumsy me knocked over my glass of water and spilled it all over Rob. It was REALLY funny. Shirley and I got a good laugh out of it!

Actually, Rob even got a good chuckle out of it. He was a good sport!

Thanks again you guys for the fun weekend!

I hope all of you in blogland are doing well. Besides me not posting anything on my blog, I haven't been very good at reading and keeping up on the blogs that I follow. I'll try and do better. :)

Happy day!
