Shy Kooky Meets The Pioneer Woman (Part II)

Thanks to my good friend, Dawn, she notified me that
The Pioneer Woman would be coming to town for her cookbook signing. As I mentioned in last week's post, Kooky Chicken wanted to meet her as well, but he can be a little shy.

For those of you who don’t know, Ree Drummond (a.k.a. The Pioneer Woman) is a Rancher’s Wife, Mother of 4, who home schools her kids. She has an amazing blog that chronicles her tales of life, photography, home schooling and of course her cooking. I stumbled across her blog a couple years ago. Little did I know that when I met Dawn, that she had been a faithful follower of The Pioneer Woman since the early days of her blog.

Dawn and I agreed that if The Pioneer Woman ever came to the NW, we were going to go see her. So, last Monday after I finished working at school, I headed straight to the bookstore and got in line. Soon after, Dawn met up with me. AND, since we were part of the first group that was there, we were able to score some seats. I think the crowd ended up being around
500 – 600 people. They were lined up outside the bookstore, trailing into the mall.

I feel bad for the guy in this picture. He worked at Powell's Books and I think was a little frustrated at times, struggling to corral all of the fans.

The time arrived for The Pioneer Woman to take the stage. She was gracious, down to earth, funny and very approachable.

But, when it came time for us to meet her and get our books signed, Kooky started up…He had been begging to come along and meet her, but he was SO scared. I finally figured out why…"Hello…she’s signing cookbooks…and Kooky is a Chicken." He had this terrible vision that it might be the end of the road for him. Huge dilemma, but he figured that since The Pioneer Woman was there to sign books, she wouldn’t have time to catch him, skin him, or whatever else goes into preparing a live chicken for a good meal. Poor Kooky…maybe the nightmares of him being roasted were becoming a reality; however, with much coaxing and encouragement from Dawn, he put aside his fear and got up enough nerve to meet her.

I think Kooky had a slight panic attack. You can see he looks a bit jaundice.

The Pioneer Woman is signing my book

I love this picture of Dawn with Ree. She looks so relaxed. (Kooky, take note)...ha ha...

Well, there you have it. Thank you Ree, for coming to Portland. It was great meeting you!

And everyone lived happily ever after.

Happy day!
hi-d
