Calendar Art

I have a tendency (especially when I was younger), to save fashion magazines, hangtags, boxes, bags and calendars.  LaLa (my Mother-in-law, for those of you that don't know) gave me a calendar that she had from last year. It is full of glitter on every page and has some really cool pictures, featuring 1920's fashion. It is by Flame Tree Publishing. If you look the calendar up online there are a few places that still have the 2009 version:

Well, today I thought I'd change up a picture that I had in our bathroom. So what better way to use this calendar that I had been saving?! I got out some scissors, a glue stick & went to town. I used several different elements from a few different pages. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

Here are some photos of the finished product. It was hard to avoid the glare from the glass when getting these shots.

See, this is why I like to save some things...for those "just in case" moments. HA HA! :)

Elaine is my 2nd cousin. She is a real sweetheart! I've never met her, but we've been corresponding via email for the past year. My Mom emailed her daughter, Cindy and she was kind enough to send us these pictures of Elaine as a little one. 

Happy Birthday, Elaine! Hope it's the best one yet! And...here's to many more, happy, healthy years ahead.

I enjoyed another walk at the pond last Saturday. I've been seeing all sorts of interesting creatures over there. You remember the Great Blue Heron that I posted the other day? Well, here are some more friends I'd like to introduce you to...

I think I know why the ducks (thank you, Shirley) crossed the (sidewalk)!

It was so they could get to the restaurant on the other side.

I met a nice gal that had moved out here recently from Illinois. Her English Mastiff was drinking from the water and slobbering all over. Seemed like a really sweet dog. I can't wait until the weather cooperates, so I can go back to the pond again.

Turn on the Light

Life is SO good for me right now...I really can't complain.

But...

I know that...

We all experience days, or even sometimes seasons, where it seems everything around us is going wrong. Thoughts can flood our minds and cause us to feel overwhelmed, putting us in a state of utter dismay, sending us right into a tailspin. Just remember that you're not alone. The power is right there...all you need to do is get plugged in, or turn on the lamp (the Bible). It's the most powerful book in the world. And also remember...this is only temporary.

Kooky was getting extremely tired of the same old wardrobe. It has always consisted of yellow, yellow and MORE yellow. So, he decided to break free from the typical trends and looked to India, a culture rich in color, detail and a fresh new fashion sense.

He's spicing it up in a brown scarf with a touch of sparkle.

Rose Festival

Portland is known as the City of Roses. Each year we have a Rose Festival that is packed with all sorts of activities, events, a Grand Floral Parade, Dragon Boat Races and of course the Annual Spring Rose Show. I've lived here all of my life, but I've never been to the Rose Show. My parents went this week and took some photos, so I thought I would share some with you. I'm almost kicking myself for not going - maybe something that I will put on my calendar for next year.

Landscaping
